First, a standardized common chart of accounts is created and tailored to the individual sector's needs. This COA is continuously refined by sector advisors and member companies.
Next, we work with each sector to identify key metrics, review profile information to create peer groups, and discuss operational data and report design needs.
Next, each member company's chart of accounts is carefully mapped to the common chart of accounts, in order to allow for easy comparisons between companies. Each company reviews their own mapping to validate the data.
Then, member companies are grouped into peer groups. Peer groups are semi-permanent groupings of non-competing comparable companies, organized by size, geography, business mix, or other variables.
Once those steps are completed, companies begin uploading quarterly trial balance data. The submission of data takes less than 10 minutes per quarter and is conducted over a secure website with a user-friendly interface.
The trial balances are parsed and processed by CoopMetrics, and then reports and tools are distributed back to the member companies. Reports are tailored to each sector, and an advisory team collaborates with CoopMetrics to continually improve the tools. Members are notified of new reports by email and may download reports from the CoopMetrics web site at any time.
Each sector has an industry expert who is trained to provide support to member companies and help them to put the data to work most effectively.
